The House System
At Heathfield International School, Vientiane, we strive to maintain a sense of community and comradery among our pupils and staff. The House system is an elemental component of achieving this aim. House membership and participation in our inter-house competitions and other events encourages cooperation and friendly competition. House membership along with the supportive environment maintained at Heathfield also imparts determination, inspiration and teamwork.
All of our pupils, from EYFS to Secondary, and staff are allocated to a House. These include Shakespeare, Rowling, Dickens and Tolkien; all celebrated and notable authors from British history.
William Shakespeare was an English playwright, poet and actor who has been widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's most prominent dramatist.
J.K. Rowling inspired the world’s youth and adults alike with her seven-volume fantasy novel series, Harry Potter, which sold over 600 million copies in 84 different languages.
Charles Dickens was an English novelist, journalist, short story writer and social critic. He created some of literature's most popular fictional characters and is viewed throughout the western world as the greatest novelist of his era.
J. R. R. Tolkien also inspired the world with his notorious high fantasy works, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, both of which have fueled sub-cultures around the globe.
In addition to a sense of belonging and fellowship the House system challenges each pupil in each House through a variety of competitions and events. Whether through such proceedings as Sport Day and academic-based competitions or the points awarded in class, the House community inspires pupils to reach their full potential as individuals and as a team within year groups and across the school.
