Secondary Department

The HISV Secondary Department serves pupils from the age of 11 to 17+ in years 7-11 (Key stages 3-4), with years 10-11 taking their first and second years of IGCSE subjects. We will begin to serve year 12 (key stage 5) in the upcoming academic year with pupils beginning their A-Levels.

Primary Oxford International Curriculum subjects are continued through year 9. Our pupils then have a choice of 11 Oxford AQA subjects to take for their IGCSE’s. After completion of Year 11, pupils are then offered 11 Oxford AQA subjects from which to choose for A-Levels.

Aims

The HISV secondary department builds on the aims and vision maintained throughout the EYFS and Primary Departments but in an elevated and more sophisticated manner. This requires a higher level of diligence and accountability compatible with our pupils’ development level and the responsibilities they will soon face in universities, the workforce and as members of their communities.

Global Skills And Citizenship

Global awareness, problem solving and involvement with the greater community increases throughout the subjects via real-world application and participation in Global Skills Projects (GSP). Pupils build on the soft skills developed in GSP in the Primary years through exposure to more serious global issues. Our pupils are also involved in numerous fundraisers and similar greater community activities.

English Proficiency

To continue developing their confidence and proficiency in the use of the English language, our pupils are required to give class and whole-school presentations throughout the subjects. We also involve our pupils in debates and speech contests.

Career Counseling

Secondary pupils have access to career counseling to support them in their self-discovery and to make informed decisions regarding subjects, university programs and career paths.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Extra-curricular subjects (Physical Education, Music, Art and Languages) are offered as well as clubs. Pupils in year 7-9 are offered elective and required clubs once a week each. The required clubs include Road Safety, Health & Nutrition and Social/Emotional Skills Development, among others. All of our Secondary pupils may also opt to join sports teams and the Student Council, while our Upper Secondary have the option of joining the Yearbook or Morning Annoucement Committees; the latter three being great opportunities to contribute to school life and to develop various work and life skills while taking part in the governance of the school.
